Actor Derek Dixon Files Lawsuit Over Alleged Harassment and Retaliation

Renowned filmmaker and media mogul Tyler Perry is facing a $260 million lawsuit filed by actor Derek Dixon, who starred in Perry’s TV series The Oval. Dixon accuses Perry of sexual harassment, assault, and professional retaliation after he allegedly rejected Perry’s unwanted advances. The lawsuit, filed in Los Angeles Superior Court, outlines a series of disturbing events spanning several years.

Dixon alleges that the two met in 2019 at an industry event. After exchanging contact information, Perry allegedly began sending suggestive messages and offering career opportunities in exchange for personal attention. One significant incident reportedly took place at Perry’s Georgia residence in 2020, where Dixon claims Perry entered his guest room at night and touched him inappropriately. Dixon says he immediately distanced himself, telling Perry he wasn’t comfortable with the situation.

Repeated Incidents and Abuse of Power

Despite the encounter, Perry continued to reach out, eventually offering Dixon a role in The Oval. According to the lawsuit, in 2021, during another visit to Perry’s home, the filmmaker allegedly pulled down Dixon’s underwear during a hug and groped him without consent. Dixon also claims Perry used his industry power to intimidate him, suggesting his character would be written off the show if he didn’t comply.

The complaint further alleges that Perry’s companies — TPS Production Services and And Action LLC — were complicit in creating an unsafe and retaliatory work environment. Dixon details how his role was minimized, communication was cut off, and other career opportunities were allegedly blocked as punishment for his resistance.

Perry’s Legal Team Responds

Tyler Perry’s attorney, Matthew Boyd, strongly denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit a "scam." In a public statement, Boyd said, "Tyler will not be shaken down, and we are confident these fabricated claims of harassment will fail."

So far, Dixon’s legal team has not responded publicly to the defense. The case is now pending further legal proceedings, with public attention growing due to Perry’s high-profile status and long-standing influence in the entertainment industry.

Tyler Perry, best known for the Madea film franchise and for creating stories centered on Black American life, has built a massive media empire that includes a 330-acre studio in Atlanta. While these accusations have yet to be proven in court, they pose a significant challenge to his public image and professional legacy.
